Visits to any surgeon can be nerve-wracking, especially if you don’t know what to expect. Having an idea of what happens before you go can ease your angst and ensure your questions and concerns are answered. In this article, we will discuss what you can expect at your first vascular appointment.

At El Paso Varicose Veins Laser Clinic, our Board Certified Vascular Surgeon will ensure you are taken care of from the moment you enter the office to when you complete your treatment plan. If you are experiencing vein-related pain, call us today at (915)-577-0121 to make an appointment.

What to Expect

If you are experiencing symptoms such as difficulty walking, skin discoloration, deep vein thrombosis, ulcers, leg pain, or restless leg syndrome, then it might be time for you to visit a vein clinic. Making a visit to a vascular surgeon can be uncertain if you have never been to one before. To ease your worry, we have compiled a detailed itinerary of what you can expect during your first appointment.

  • Gather Medical History- If you received medical attention or have undergone treatment, be sure to bring all documentation about what you previously went through. This would include lab results, CT scans, or ultrasounds. If you were or are still taking medication, remember to bring the script.
  • Consultation- After checking in, you will then meet with Dr. Aidinian. During this meeting, you will discuss your symptoms, concerns, and what you would like done. Lifestyle questions such as drinking, smoking, and eating habits will be brought up. Details are important, so be sure not to leave anything out during your talk.
  • Diagnostic Test- Most clinics will offer an on-site diagnostic test on the same day of your appointment. A vascular ultrasound is one of the most common tests to check your veins for adequate blood flow and search for abnormalities; it’s helpful for diagnosing peripheral artery disease. Physical exams and ABI measurements may be conducted as well.
  • Reading the Results- You will then sit down with your surgeon and look over your results. This is where you will find the underlying issues for your visit and discuss the next steps, including treatment plans. You may have a lot of questions and concerns following the delivery of your results, so do not be afraid to speak up.
  • Treatment Options- We will discuss treatments such as sclerotherapy, endovenous laser ablation, or ambulatory phlebectomy. Once you have decided on your treatment plan, the next step would be to schedule your follow-up appointments. The purpose of the follow-ups is to monitor your healing progress and adjust the treatment if necessary. An additional diagnostic test may be conducted to assess your vascular health and make sure the treatment is making improvements.
