Recovery from Varicose Vein Treatment

The varicose vein treatments we offer at El Paso Varicose Vein Laser Clinic are outpatient procedures. As walk in-walk out procedures, you can resume normal activities the same day. Our treatments all help remedy varicose veins and while the recovery period is minimal, here are a few things you can expect.

Recovery Time and Symptoms

While you can resume normal activities after all of our procedures, you may experience some pain and discomfort for a period of time after the procedure depending on which you receive.

Sclerotherapy

There really isn’t a recovery period for sclerotherapy procedures. After the procedure, it’s important to not engage in strenuous activity but to exercise daily for about an hour.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

The recovery time for an ambulatory phlebectomy is incredibly brief and in most cases immediate. The treated area may feel a bit uncomfortable, but that is mostly the extent of the symptoms after the procedure and they usually resolve themselves within a week or two. If you feel discomfort, you can take Ibuprofen or Tylenol to ease the pain.

Endovenous Laser Ablation

After you receive this procedure, we encourage you to walk immediately, like at the mall or a park, but you should avoid strenuous activity for a couple of weeks after the procedure. You may also experience mild discomfort in the treated area for two to four weeks after the procedure, but this can be remedied with over the counter pain medicine.

Ulcer Treatments

At El Paso Varicose Vein Laser Clinic, we treat leg ulcers with state of the art procedures and ultrasounds, which have minimal recovery times.

For other procedures, there isn’t too long of a recovery time and you shouldn’t feel much discomfort, if any at all.

Side Effects

While side effects are minimal, there are a few you should be aware of. After these procedures, you may experience stinging and redness around the areas that were treated. While this is typically a normal side effect, it could also illustrate a more serious underlying cause, such as nerve damage. You may also experience skin discoloration for a period after receiving treatment. A more serious side effect is blood clotting. While rare, blood clotting can cause serious complications. Before receiving treatment, it’s important to speak with your doctor about which side effects occur often and what you may encounter based on your physical attributes and your health history.
